The BCCI on Monday has announced the 15-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022. The team will be led by 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma while KL Rahul will be the vice-captain. Rahul could not play in the series against West Indies due to Corona's grip. He has returned to the team after recovering from hernia surgery.
Apart from Rahul, veteran batsman Virat Kohli has also made a comeback. Kohli was not a part of the Indian team on the West Indies tour. He played the last match against England last month. Kohli scored 17 runs in 22 balls in the ODI against England on 17 July. He has been battling to play big innings for a long time.
Bumrah and Harshal are out
Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have been ruled out of the Indian team due to injuries. BCCI tweeted and updated about both. The board said that Bumrah and Harshal were not available for selection due to injury. Both are on rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get fit. Bumrah was last seen on the field in the ODI series against England. He is battling a back injury.
At the same time, Harshal is battling with a rib injury. The names of the players who were dropped from the main team include batsman Shreyas Iyer and left-arm spinner Axar Patel. Iyer and Patel will be the standby players. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar, who has been out of the team for four months due to a muscle strain and back injury, is also a reserve player.
