If you are a fan of football, you have probably heard of Lamine Yamal, the 15-year-old sensation who made his debut for Barcelona on April 29, 2023. Yamal became the youngest player to ever play in La Liga, breaking a record that had stood for more than a century. But who is Lamine Yamal and how did he rise to fame so quickly?

Lamine Yamal Nasraoui Ebana was born on July 13, 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. His parents are of Moroccan and Cameroonian descent, and he has dual citizenship. He started playing football at a young age, showing exceptional talent and flair. He joined Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia, when he was nine years old, and quickly impressed his coaches and teammates with his skills and attitude.

Yamal is a left-footed winger who can play on either flank or as a second striker. He is known for his speed, dribbling, vision, creativity and finishing. He has been compared to Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati, two of Barcelona's greatest ever players who also made their debuts as teenagers. Yamal idolizes Messi and has said that he wants to follow in his footsteps.

Yamal's breakthrough season came in 2022-23, when he scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists in 30 games for Barcelona's under-19 team. He also made his debut for Spain's under-17 national team, scoring four goals in six games. His performances caught the eye of Barcelona's first-team manager, Xavi Hernandez, who decided to promote him to the senior squad in April 2023.

Yamal made his debut against Real Betis at Camp Nou, coming on as a substitute for Gavi in the 86th minute. He received a standing ovation from the fans and almost scored with his first touch, but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper. 

He became the youngest player to ever play in La Liga, aged 15 years, 9 months and 16 days. Only three younger players have represented Barcelona in their history: Armand Martínez-Sagi in 1920 (14 years, 6 months and 16 days), Carles Comamala in 1903 (14 years, 7 months and 5 months), and Paulino Alcántara in 1912 (15 years, 4 months and 18 days).

Xavi praised Yamal after the game, saying that he is "special" and has "innate talent" comparable to Messi. He also said that Yamal has "no fear" and "bags of talent" and that he can "mark an era" at Barcelona. Yamal thanked Xavi for the opportunity and said that he was living a dream.

Yamal is widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents in world football and has attracted interest from several top clubs. However, he has said that he wants to stay at Barcelona and win trophies with them. He has a contract with Barcelona until 2026, with a release clause of €300 million.

Yamal will turn 16 in July 2023, which means he will be eligible to play more regularly for Barcelona's first team next season. He will also be able to sign a professional contract with them. He has already made history at Barcelona, but he has a bright future ahead of him.

The BCCI on Monday has announced the 15-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022. The team will be led by 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma while KL Rahul will be the vice-captain. The board said that Bumrah and Harshal were not available for selection due to injury. Both are on rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get fit. Bumrah was last seen on the field in the ODI series against England. He is battling a back injury.

At the same time, Harshal is battling with a rib injury. The names of the players who were dropped from the main team include batsman Shreyas Iyer and left-arm spinner Axar Patel. Iyer and Patel will be the standby players. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar, who has been out of the team for four months due to a muscle strain and back injury, is also a reserve player.

With the women's hockey team winning the bronze medal, the total number of medals in India's account has increased to 41. In which 13 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze medals have come.

In India, two more medals have come in wrestling. Divya Kakaran in women's 68kg category and Mohit Grewal in men's 125kg category won bronze medals. Divya defeated Tiger Lily Lemali of Tonga 2-0 (pinfall win) in the bronze medal match and Mohit defeated Aaron Johnson of Jamaica 6-0 in the bronze medal match. Both the players traveled to the bronze medal under repechage.

Divya also won a bronze medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, while this is Mohit's first medal at the world level.

Divya was defeated 11-0 by Nigeria's Blessing Oboruddu in the quarterfinals. After this, reaching the final of Blessing Oborududu, Divya got a chance to play the repechage round and she defeated Blandin Ngiri of Cameroon to qualify for the bronze medal bout. In the women's 68kg category, Blessing Oboruddu won gold, Canada's Linda Morris took silver and Divya, New Zealand's Tyla Ford won bronze.

Mohit had defeated Alexius of Cyprus 10-1 in the quarterfinals, but was defeated 12-2 by Amar Dhesi of Canada in the semifinals. Mohit then won the bronze medal match. In the men's 125kg category, Amar Dhesi won gold, Pakistan's Zaman Anwar took silver and Mohit, besides England's Mandhir Kunar won bronze.

This is India's eighth and ninth bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games 2022, taking the total number of medals to 26. In wrestling, it is India's 22nd and 23rd bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games and 107th and 108th overall.

Dhawan said this after winning the third ODI

Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan said the young players did well after registering a 119-run win over West Indies in the third and final ODI. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, pacer Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur bowled well in the rain-hit third match to give West Indies a massive defeat.

Dhawan said, “I think the players are young, but they played with maturity. Really proud of the way he handled himself on the field. There are very good signs for us. I am very happy with my form, I have been playing this format for a long time. I was happy with the way I played that innings in the first ODI and am still happy with my performance. The way Gill scored 98 runs, it was fantastic."
